The left-handed pitcher Tyler Matzek of the Atlanta Braves was placed on the

15-day disabled list on Tuesday because of inflammation in his left elbow, which presented another challenge for the team’s bullpen.

Pierce Johnson, a right-handed pitcher, was placed on the same list on Sunday due to discomfort in his right elbow, which led to this move.

After giving up three runs in just two outs during Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which resulted in an 11-2 loss for the Braves, the decision was made to place Matzek on the disabled list. The 33-year-old Matzek has had a difficult season, giving up 11 runs in 10 innings and sporting a high ERA of 9.90 in 11 outings.

Matzek, who had an ERA of 2.57 in 69 games, was a major contributor to the Braves’ 2021 World Series victory. But in 2022, he had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, which kept him out of action for the whole 2023 campaign.

On Monday, the team’s off day, Matzek reported having elbow soreness, according to Braves manager Brian Snitker. Snitker noted that it’s normal to experience inflammation following Tommy John’s surgery and underlined the significance of appropriately managing it to guarantee Matzek’s complete recuperation.

Before their Tuesday night game against the Boston Red Sox, the Braves summoned up left-handed pitcher Ray Kerr from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the void left by Matzek’s absence.
