Terrance Brooks, a former football CB for Texas, moves to Illinois.

Following his May 10 visit to Champaign, Illinois, to observe head coach Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini, Brooks made his commitment. In the upcoming week, he was also supposed to visit the USC Trojans and the Michigan Wolverines.

After two seasons at Texas, the No. 11 transfer cornerback in the 247Sports Composite entered the transfer portal after spring camp. The only Longhorn with more than ten starts in the previous campaign, Brooks entered the transfer portal this offseason. He started as Texas’ starting field cornerback the previous campaign.

Since 2022, Brooks has played in over 25 games for the Longhorns, starting 16 of them, and logging over 700 defensive snaps. During the 2023–24 season, he was one of the starters that helped the Longhorns win the Big 12 Championship and advance to their first-ever College Football Playoffs.

Brooks totaled 29 combined tackles, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, six defensive stops, and one quarterback pressure during his two seasons at Texas. His three interceptions from the previous season tied him for the team lead for Texas.

The Longhorns signed one of the top defensive talents in the 2022 class, Brooks, who was projected by 247Sports Composite to rank fifth nationally. According to the 247Sports Composite, the former high-four-star recruit from Little Elm High School in Texas is ranked as the 83rd talent nationwide in the 2022 class, No. 10 at cornerback, and No. 14 from Texas.

This spring, some former Texas defensive backs are finding homes at other P5 institutions.

Austin Jordan, a junior nickel, and Brooks, a transfer defensive back from Texas, both found new homes at other Power Five institutions after entering the portal this spring. Jordan committed to the TCU Horned Frogs in order to stay in the Big 12, therefore he is staying in-state.

To bolster the secondary depth from the portal, Texas added Jay’Vion Cole, a former sophomore transfer cornerback for the San Jose State Spartans. Entering preseason camp, Cole is anticipated to face off against senior Gavin Holmes for starting reps at field corner.
