Auburn Tigers running back was shot and injured in Florida.

Senior Auburn Tigers running back Brian Battie was among five people injured in a shooting in Sarasota, Florida, according to WSFA.

The incident occurred in the 3400 block of 17th Street in Sarasota at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Tommie L. Battle, Battie’s brother and a former Braden River High School football player, was pronounced dead on scene. The four others were treated for their wounds at a local hospital. There is no word on their current situation.

Investigators are still seeking to identify what caused the shooting, including the primary motivation for the conduct.

Auburn University is aware that Battie was injured in the shooting and is working to obtain additional information.

“We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information,” an Auburn spokeswoman told AL.com regarding the gunshot.

Battie, a 5-foot-7, 170-pound running back from Sarasota, played the first three seasons of his career at South Florida before transferring to Auburn for the 2023 season.
