Geron Christian has inked a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans. Christian started the final nine games of the 2023 season for the Cleveland Browns.
Christian reunites with offensive line coach Bill Callahan, who previously coached him during his stint with the Browns. Callahan was also part of the Washington Commanders organization when Christian was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Christian initially joined the Browns amid a crisis at offensive tackle. Jack Conklin’s season-ending injury in week one forced rookie Dawand Jones into action at right tackle. Jedrick Wills later suffered a knee injury in week eight against the Arizona Cardinals, leading to James Hudson III filling in at left tackle.
In the subsequent week’s practice, Dawand Jones suffered a torn MCL, ending his season. This series of injuries pushed Hudson to right tackle and elevated Christian to left tackle. His first start came in a crucial divisional matchup on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, where the Browns clinched a thrilling 33-31 victory. Many players viewed this game as a pivotal turning point in the season, demonstrating the team’s resilience.
Despite their makeshift lineup, the Browns continued to find success. Christian and Hudson protected rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in his second NFL start, guiding the Browns to a 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a game-winning drive culminating in a field goal by Dustin Hopkins.
Throughout the remainder of the season, Christian protected quarterback Joe Flacco, helping the Browns secure an 11-6 record and a playoff berth. However, their weaknesses at tackle were exposed in the wildcard game against the Houston Texans, where the Browns struggled to run the ball effectively and eventually fell short after back-to-back interceptions returned for touchdowns.
