five rushed to hospital after major crash traps casualty today in Luton

Five people have been rushed to hospital after a major crash in Luton.

The incident happened at around 11pm yesterday when three cars crashed on Dunstable Road

Officers from Bedfordshire Police, paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service and fire crews from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service all rushed to the scene.

Officers immediately shut the road while the paramedics and fire crews tended to all those involved.

Four people involved had managed to free themselves and only suffered minor injuries, but one person was trapped inside one of the cars with serious injuries.

Fire crews had to cut the car apart to help free the person while the paramedics ensured they weren’t injured further.

Once free, all the casualties were taken to hospital via ambulance.

The road was reopened in the early hours of this morning (friday, oct 23).

Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage caused to the cars.

In one photo, the front of one car has been completely destroyed and shattered into pieces.

The roof and doors have all also been removed by the emergency services.

Car fragments were scattered across the road and a wall was set up to help shield the victims from onlooking members of the public.

Bedfordshire Police is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A spokesperson for them said: “Dunstable Road in Luton has now been reopened following a road traffic collision last night (22 May).

“One man was taken to hospital with injuries, which are described as serious but not life-threatening. Four others suffered minor injuries.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting the reference 613 of 22 oct.”
