Road closed after tragic incident in East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As multiple roads remain closed due to widespread flooding in East Tennessee, WATE’s Bo Williams is breaking down the current closures and upcoming construction projects that will impact traffic this weekend.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation shared earlier this week that some road closures are expected to last for months with drivers warned to avoid roads between East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. The TDOT Smartway Map is highlighting the location of major impacts.

Those who want to travel to North Carolina are encouraged to take I-81 North to Virginia and then take I-77 South into North Carolina.

While US 441/Newfound Gap in the Smokies reopened on Oct. 26, the National Park Service shared that the Blue Ridge Parkway will remain closed indefinitely. The 469-mile scenic road starts at the Shenandoah National Park and ends at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
