South Carolina Loses Veteran Infielder to Transfer Portal

Will Tippett, a three-year contributor for Gamecock baseball, announced Friday that he will enter the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining. The infielder shared his decision on social media, thanking coaches, teammates, and fans for his time in Columbia.

“Thank you, Gamecock Baseball, for my time at Carolina,” Tippett wrote. “I’m excited for my next opportunity to compete.”

Tippett’s playing time dipped significantly in 2025, appearing in just 24 games with a .179 batting average. Over his career, he logged 95 games, hitting .181 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs.

He becomes the sixth Gamecock to enter the portal this offseason, joining pitchers Roman Kimball and Wyatt Evans, as well as position players Tyler June, Cayden Gaskin, and Ryan Bakes.

Meanwhile, South Carolina received some positive news, as infielders  KJ Scobey and Beau Hollins, along with catcher Talmadge LeCroy, confirmed they will return next season.

The baseball transfer portal officially opens June 2.
