The Atlanta Braves have been in the spotlight throughout the season — and not always for the right reasons. Injuries to key players like Reynaldo López, Spencer Strider, and AJ Smith-Shawver have plagued the team, while the suspension of outfielder Jurickson Profar for a failed drug test has only added to the chaos. Profar’s 80-game ban rules him out for the postseason, compounding Atlanta’s woes.

While the team has welcomed back stars like Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr., their return hasn’t sparked the turnaround fans had hoped for. Statistically, the Braves continue to rank among the bottom-tier teams in the National League. Given their current position, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Atlanta pivot — trading away players on expiring deals while targeting younger, controllable talent to build for the future.

This team isn’t terrible, but as it stands, the roster isn’t built to make a deep postseason run. Strategic changes are likely needed. So who might Atlanta consider dealing?

4. RHP Bryce Elder

The Braves don’t need to overhaul the entire roster — just fine-tune it. A smart move could involve flipping Bryce Elder, a former top pitching prospect, in exchange for a shortstop, outfielder, or more proven starter.

After a stellar rookie year, Elder struggled last season but has bounced back in 2025, regaining much of his trade value. With that in mind, the Braves could use him in a package to land a pitcher like Sandy Alcántara or Nick Lodolo, or perhaps a rising shortstop such as Ezequiel Tovar.

3. RHP Hurston Waldrep

Another trade chip could be top prospect Hurston Waldrep. Though his raw talent is undeniable — highlighted by a nasty splitter — his transition to the majors has been rocky. After underperforming last season and again this year, Atlanta hasn’t leaned on him even with their pitching needs.

Still, Waldrep carries name value and potential, making him an ideal piece in a blockbuster trade. If the Braves want to retool quickly and stay in the playoff hunt, using Waldrep to bring in ready-now talent might be their best shot.

2. RHP Raisel Iglesias

Raisel Iglesias wasn’t expected to be on the trade radar this season, but with the Braves teetering on the edge of postseason contention and Iglesias in the final year of his contract, things have changed.

Though he’s had some inconsistencies in 2025, he still shows flashes of his usual dominance. If Atlanta’s season continues to slip, Iglesias becomes a prime trade candidate for contenders needing bullpen help. If the Braves manage to stay in the race, they may keep him — or even seek more relief help — but the trend suggests he could be on the move.

1. DH Marcell Ozuna

Perhaps the most buzzworthy name on the trade list is designated hitter Marcell Ozuna. Despite being a productive power bat for Atlanta in recent years, Ozuna’s expiring deal and expected high price tag in free agency make his future with the Braves uncertain.

It’s unlikely the front office will shell out a major contract for an aging DH, even if he’s hitting well. While not every team will want to commit to Ozuna — especially if he can’t return to the outfield — a few will undoubtedly be interested if he’s made available.

If Atlanta decides to sell, Ozuna could be one of the first names on the block.
