Deion Sanders is still clearly frustrated with how the 2025 NFL Draft process unfolded — especially regarding how his son, Shedeur Sanders, was treated. Expected by many to be a first-round pick, Shedeur instead slipped all the way to the fifth round, where the Cleveland Browns finally selected him.

Leading up to the draft, rumors surfaced that Shedeur performed poorly in interviews with several teams, most notably the New York Giants. The most damaging claims alleged he showed up to meetings unprepared, wore headphones, and even answered FaceTime calls mid-interview.

During a recent appearance on Said What Needs To Be Said with Asante Samuel, Deion addressed the controversy head-on and called out what he sees as false narratives.

“Stop lying,” Deion said. “You’ve got to understand — my kids are built for this. You’re not going to catch them in any foolishness or drama. When you say he went into a meeting unprepared — come on, man. This is Shedeur Sanders, who’s thrived under six different coordinators. He levels up every time. He’s a pro.”

Deion scoffed at the idea that Shedeur would wear headphones into an NFL meeting: “Anyone who knows my son knows he’s a professional. There’s no way he went into that meeting with headphones on. Let’s be real.”

While Deion didn’t call out the Giants by name, the implication was clear. The leaked story about Shedeur’s interview with head coach Brian Daboll likely came from within the organization.

“There was a lot of foolish stuff before the draft,” Deion added. “But you know what? The Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise.”

Now, Shedeur heads to Cleveland with a chip on his shoulder — and a crowded quarterback room to navigate. He’ll compete against Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, rookie Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson (if healthy) for a chance to prove himself at the next level.
