The New York Giants won’t have any contract concerns with rookie defensive tackle Darius Alexander this offseason. Widely regarded as one of the biggest winners of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants added a blue-chip talent, a potential franchise quarterback, and two possible starters by the end of Round 4.

Of those additions, Alexander is arguably the most vital for Year 1.

The former Toledo standout is expected to earn a starting role, though the team may ease him into the lineup as he adjusts to the NFL. The 3-tech defensive tackle position, lining up beside star Dexter Lawrence, was a glaring weakness on last year’s roster and needed to be addressed to solidify the defensive front.

With his skill set against both the run and the pass, Alexander fills that void and raises the baseline of the Giants’ defensive line.

On Monday, the Giants officially announced that Alexander signed his rookie contract. According to Over the Cap, the four-year deal is valued around $6.75 million. As a third-round pick, it does not include a fifth-year option nor is it fully guaranteed, typical for players outside the first round.

It’s understandable why the signing took some time, but there’s no cause for concern. Many rookies finalize their contracts later in the offseason, and unlike reports surrounding Cincinnati’s first-round edge rusher Shemar Stewart, there were no rumors of the Giants being stingy with Alexander.

Alongside Dexter Lawrence, Alexander will be joined by Roy Robertson-Harris, Rakeem Nuñez-Roches, D.J. Davidson, Elijah Chatman, and Jeremiah Ledbetter on the interior defensive line.

Alexander completes the Giants’ defensive front. If he can capitalize on the attention Lawrence draws, the team’s pass rush will reach a new level of efficiency. Alternatively, if Alexander commands double teams himself, it will free up Lawrence to dominate even more.

The third-round rookie has a key role ahead of him, and with contract details settled, he can focus fully on football. Running back Cam Skattebo remains the only unsigned member of the Giants’ draft class.
