History in the Making: South Carolina’s Red-Hot Streak Threatens to Rewrite the 2025 College Football Season

The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering the 2025 college football season with hopes of building on an impressive winning streak.

Expectations are high for what could be the program’s most successful year yet under head coach Shane Beamer. While much of the preseason buzz has centered around the team’s overall potential, one storyline has flown somewhat under the radar—South Carolina’s continued dominance over SEC East rival Vanderbilt.

Since the two programs began facing off annually in 1992, the Gamecocks have won all but four matchups, with their last loss to the Commodores coming in 2008. Since then, South Carolina has strung together 16 straight victories—the longest winning streak in the history of the series.

Their most recent meeting saw South Carolina secure a convincing 28–7 win in Nashville. In that game, the Gamecocks outgained Vanderbilt by nearly 200 yards, and quarterback LaNorris Sellers delivered a strong performance with 238 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Though maintaining their streak over Vanderbilt alone won’t determine South Carolina’s College Football Playoff hopes, it will certainly help set the tone. Keeping their momentum going against the Commodores could prove key in building confidence and rhythm early in the season.

The Gamecocks and Commodores are set to face off once again on Saturday, September 13, in Columbia. Kickoff is scheduled for either 7 or 7:45 p.m., with the broadcast network yet to be announced.
