MAJOR-NEWS: Giants Shake Up the Offseason: As These New Edge Rusher & Rookie QB Are Set To Dominate and Ignite a Championship Run

Most of the offseason buzz around the New York Giants naturally centers on star edge rusher Abdul Carter and first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, who could become foundational pieces in the team’s quest to return to championship contention.

Still, the Giants look set to improve significantly from their 2024 struggles, with key upgrades on both offense and defense. General manager Joe Schoen quickly bolstered the secondary by signing cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland early in free agency. Shortly after, he added veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to strengthen the passing game depth.

Wilson brings much-needed stability to a quarterback group that lacked consistency last year. While his playstyle can be unpredictable (though less so than Winston’s), his baseline performance is far more reliable than what the Giants had in 2024.

After working with the new quarterbacks in camp, Holland shared his thoughts on the group. “It almost looks second nature for those two vets,” he told Sirius XM. “I’m really excited for Jaxson because he’s got two amazing veterans who bring energy and leadership. You have to lift the young guys, and I’m confident these two will help Jaxson grow into a great quarterback.”

Wilson’s immediate goal is to make the Giants competitive enough to contend for meaningful games throughout the season. However, his most critical role will be mentoring Dart behind the scenes during practice and film study. Holland praised Wilson’s leadership during OTAs, saying, “He’s calm and experienced. You can tell he’s done this many times in different systems against tough defenses. His poise is something you just recognize.”

While Dart is likely to redshirt his rookie year, his development or potential team struggles could speed that up. For now, Wilson will be the one leading the Giants on the field, but when the time comes, Dart’s potential will be central to the team’s future. Holland hopes his presence on defense will help set up Dart for success by keeping the Giants in favorable situations.
