Big News: Dawn Staley’s New WNBA Gig Could Shake Up Her Offseason!

We’re used to seeing South Carolina Women’s Basketball Head Coach Dawn Staley guiding her team from the sidelines, but tomorrow she’ll step into a brand-new role. CBS is launching WNBA Tip-Off, a new pregame show for the WNBA, featuring reporter Sarah Kustok as host, former player Renee Montgomery as analyst, and three-time national champion Dawn Staley providing expert commentary. The show premieres this Saturday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. EST, just before CBS broadcasts its first-ever WNBA regular-season game. The matchup features the Chicago Sky taking on the Indiana Fever. Alongside an exciting game, fans will get to hear Staley’s insights on some of her former players, including Fever forward Aliyah Boston, who was a key leader on Staley’s 2022 National Championship team and went on to win the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Aliyah Boston won’t be the only former Gamecock that Dawn Staley will analyze on the show. Kamilla Cardoso, another key player from the 2024 National Championship team, now shines for the Chicago Sky. It will be fascinating to hear Staley’s perspective on how both Boston and Cardoso have grown as professionals—and even more intriguing to get her take on how their matchups in the paint might play out.

Dawn Staley Ready to Dominate a New Arena in Women’s Basketball

This WNBA Tip-Off episode is just the first of four scheduled shows. The next airs July 12, featuring the Golden State Valkyries versus the Las Vegas Aces, where Staley will again see Gamecock alumni A’ja Wilson and Tiffany Mitchell on the Aces. The third show is set for August 9 ahead of another Fever-Sky matchup, and the final episode airs August 16, spotlighting the New York Liberty taking on the Minnesota Lynx.

It’s worth noting that Staley already has a strong track record with pregame shows. During last NCAA football season, she appeared on ESPN’s College Gameday, where she impressively nailed 6 out of 9 game-winner picks.
