During the fourth inning of the San Francisco Giants’ 5-4 extra-inning victory over the Atlanta Braves, chaos briefly broke out when two baseballs ended up on the field during live action. The unusual scene unfolded after Braves catcher Sean Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski caught it and quickly threw the ball home as Matt Olson tagged up from third.

Just as Olson slid safely into home plate, a second ball suddenly flew onto the field — not from a player, but from the stands. The stray ball bounced past home plate and rolled toward the pitcher’s mound, causing confusion among players, umpires, and fans alike.

That’s a first,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said after the game. “I’ve never seen anything like it. I have no idea where it came from or what the rules say about it. It didn’t impact the play, but seeing a second baseball on the field was definitely strange.”

The culprit seemed to be a fan in the upper deck who threw the ball over the protective netting. Although the rogue ball didn’t change the outcome, it nearly caused a dangerous situation on the field. After a brief discussion, the umpires allowed the run to stand and the game continued without any penalties.
