BREAKING: Giants Exec Says THIS Young Core Could Dominate the NFL š
New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown recently offered rare insight into the teamās offseason strategy, shedding light on key decisionsāfrom their top draft picks to roster development and positional changes.
One of the headline moves came with the Giants selecting linebacker Abdul Carter from Penn State with the No. 3 overall pick. Brown explained that the decision was based not only on Carterās talent but also how well he fit into their evolving defensive scheme.
āAbdulās versatility lets him impact the quarterback from different spots,ā Brown said. āWhen you line him up with guys like Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, the goal is to build a front seven thatās dynamic and disruptive.ā
Brown said the Giants were confident in Carterās ability because of how consistently he showed flexibility on tape, capable of rushing both inside and off the edge. The aim is to exploit mismatches and build around their athleticism up front.
While the pre-draft buzz centered largely on quarterbacks, the Giants waited until later in the first round to grab Ole Miss signal-caller Jaxson Dart. According to Brown, the pick was the result of a two-year evaluation processānot a last-minute move.
āHeās got that relatable, everyman quality,ā Brown noted. āAt the Senior Bowl, players from different schools mentioned Jaxson as someone they respected and would want as a teammate. That stuck with us.ā
Dartās leadership, poise, and mobility made him a natural fit for the system, with the team just as impressed by his mindset as his athletic tools.
Another major shift was moving former first-rounder Evan Neal from tackle to guardāa position change the Giants believe could help unlock his potential after inconsistent play on the edge.
āWeāve seen flashes, and now itās about making them consistent,ā Brown said. āHeās embraced the move, and with the help of coaches like Carm Bricillo and James Ferentz, heās been putting in the work.ā
Despite coming off a disappointing three-win season, the Giants largely kept their young roster intact. Brown explained this wasnāt out of complacency, but rather a belief in their developing core.
āWith such a young nucleus, we wanted to focus on growth and bring in the right veterans,ā Brown said. āAdding players like Jevon Holland, Paulson Adebo, and Russell Wilson gives us needed leadership and experience.ā
He also mentioned second-year cornerback Deonte Banks, who had an uneven rookie year. Brown believes that consistency and confidenceāalong with a simplified role under new DC Shane Bowenācould help Banks break through.
āHeās progressing,ā Brown said. āA second year in the same system and a better support structure will go a long way.ā
One under-the-radar but important offseason decision was re-signing kicker Graham Gano, whoās returning from injury.
āGanoās a true professional,ā Brown said. āSpecial teams depend on trust, and he brings that in spadesāalong with leadership in the locker room.ā
Overall, Brown believes the Giants are finally assembling a balanced rosterāyoung, versatile, and anchored by key veteransāthat reflects the vision Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have been building toward since their arrival.
