Could the Yankees Make a Blockbuster Move for Brewers’ Ace Freddy Peralta?

The Milwaukee Brewers might be ready to part ways with another top-tier talent—this time, it could be ace Freddy Peralta heading to the Bronx.

Despite owning a solid 38-33 record and staying competitive in the NL Central, Milwaukee’s front office has a reputation for bold, forward-thinking moves. After previously trading away stars like Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams, they may be open to a similar scenario involving Peralta.

According to FanSided’s Zach Pressnell, Peralta could be one of the biggest names to hit the trade block this summer. “The Brewers are no strangers to trading their best players before they walk in free agency,” Pressnell noted. “It’s entirely possible we see the same situation play out with Peralta.”

The New York Yankees—currently built to win now—would be an ideal landing spot. Pairing Peralta with Max Fried and Carlos Rodón could give New York one of the most formidable starting rotations in baseball. But the price won’t be cheap. Milwaukee would likely seek a premium return, with shortstop prospect George Lombard Jr. mentioned as a potential centerpiece. So far, however, the Yankees have shown no interest in moving Lombard.

Peralta, a 2021 All-Star, is enjoying another dominant season with a 2.60 ERA and 84 strikeouts across 15 starts. His high strikeout rate and ability to suppress hits make him an especially attractive trade target for postseason hopefuls.

Still, the Brewers face a difficult balancing act. Dealing Peralta could help strengthen their long-term farm system—especially with rising stars like Jacob Misiorowski waiting in the wings—but it might also weaken their chances this season and frustrate a fanbase already used to losing star players.

If Milwaukee falls further behind the Cubs, selling might become more likely. But pulling the trigger on a deal with the Yankees would mean weighing short-term sacrifice against long-term value—and the Bronx Bombers’ willingness to meet their price.
