According to Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune, the team has agreed to a contract extension with offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. Previously entering the final year of his deal in 2025, Phillips is now set to remain with the franchise for several more seasons.

Phillips has a long-standing working relationship with head coach Kevin O’Connell, dating back to their time together with both the Rams (2019–2021) and Washington. When O’Connell took over in Minnesota, it was no surprise that Phillips followed. While O’Connell has handled play-calling duties during his tenure, Phillips has played an integral role in shaping the offense.

Hired in 2022, Phillips got his first shot at being an offensive coordinator at either the college or pro level. Under his guidance, Minnesota’s offense has twice ranked in the top 10 in scoring over the past three years. Despite a setback—a three-game team-imposed suspension following a 2023 DWI arrest—Phillips returned to his role and remains a key figure moving forward.

O’Connell, named 2024 NFL Coach of the Year, has cemented himself as one of the league’s premier offensive minds. With second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy stepping into the starting role after missing his rookie season due to injury, Phillips will be instrumental in accelerating the young signal-caller’s development.

Minnesota also boasts a retooled offensive line and a loaded group of playmakers. Continued offensive success will not only validate the decision to extend Phillips but also reinforce the franchise’s commitment to its current leadership.
