Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers were two of the standout rookies in the NFL last season. Daniels took home NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, while Nabers made a major impact of his own in his first year. The two share a strong bond from their time as teammates at LSU, where they played together for two seasons.

Now, they find themselves as NFC East rivals, facing each other twice a year. Despite the growing rivalry between their teams, their friendship remains unchanged.

“It’s tough because we’re in the same division,” Nabers said on the NFL Digest podcast. “When we play, it’s not like I can just ignore him. But seeing what he’s accomplished, it’s surreal. I know his work ethic, I know the effort he puts in, and I know what kind of teammate he is. I’m truly proud of him. That’s my brother. Yeah, we’re going to compete, but that won’t change.”

Some fans and analysts previously criticized their interactions during games—chatting before kickoff and catching up on the sidelines—as being too friendly for a divisional rivalry. But both players make it clear: the competitive fire is there, and so is the brotherhood.

“I’m not going to change who I am just because of the team I play for,” Nabers added. “Jayden is a true baller and a leader. He motivates the guys around him and makes sure everyone stays focused. He’s someone people naturally follow.”

The pair even joked after the draft last year about betting on who would win Rookie of the Year—an idea quickly shut down by the NFL.

Looking ahead, Nabers will be working with a new quarterback after the Giants selected Jaxson Dart in this year’s draft. While it’s unclear when Dart will take over from veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the team sees him as the long-term solution. Meanwhile, Daniels aims to build on a breakout rookie year that ended in an NFC Championship Game appearance.
