Legendary former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre will return to the dugout as a coach for the American League in the upcoming MLB All-Star Game, thanks to an invitation from current Yankees skipper Aaron Boone, who is managing the AL squad. Boone earned the role after leading the Yankees to the World Series last season.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic shared the news on social media.

Now 84 years old, Torre brings decades of experience, having managed in the big leagues for 29 seasons, including a historic 12-year stint with the Yankees (1996–2007). Under his leadership, New York won four World Series titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000) and made two additional appearances (2001, 2003). His 1998 Yankees won 114 games, an AL record at the time until the 2001 Mariners broke it with 116 wins.

In addition to the Yankees, Torre also managed the Mets, Braves, Cardinals, and Dodgers. He retired with a career managerial record of 2,326 wins and 1,997 losses, earned Manager of the Year honors twice, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Torre also had a distinguished 18-year playing career, representing the Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves, Cardinals, and Mets. He was a nine-time All-Star and led the majors in hits in 1971.

This year’s All-Star Game will take place on July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta. Early voting results were released Monday, with Aaron Judge currently leading all American League players in fan votes.

In addition to the All-Star Game, the Home Run Derby is set for the night before, while the Futures Game will be held the Sunday prior.
