Giants’ $141M Superstar Just Got Called Out — And He’s Poised for a Massive Comeback in 2025!

The New York Giants defense is heading into 2025 with high expectations, thanks in part to a few major offseason additions. But one returning veteran could be the key to elevating the entire unit — edge rusher Brian Burns.

After being acquired in a trade last offseason, Burns put together a strong debut season in New York. The 27-year-old recorded 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, and 61 total pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. Still, there’s a belief that he has even more to give.

Former Giants executive and current NFL analyst Marc Ross is confident that Burns will take a big step forward in 2025.

“Burns had a solid 2024, putting up 8.5 sacks, 66 quarterback pressures, and a career-high 71 tackles,” Ross said. “But I guarantee his numbers are going to rise with Abdul Carter in the mix. Carter is the best pass rusher to enter the league since Micah Parsons, and his presence will force teams to pick their poison.”

Ross believes the addition of Carter — this year’s No. 3 overall pick — will have the same kind of game-changing effect on the Giants defense that Parsons had in Dallas. With Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and now Carter all demanding attention, opposing offenses will struggle to decide who to double-team. That should open up more one-on-one opportunities for Burns off the edge, putting him in position for a potential breakout year.

Beyond Carter, Burns will also benefit from having a healthy Lawrence anchoring the middle and a more experienced Thibodeaux on the opposite side. While Burns has only posted one double-digit sack season in his career so far, he consistently ranks among the league’s leaders in quarterback pressures.

If he can start converting more of those pressures into sacks, 2025 could be his best season yet — with a return to the Pro Bowl and a double-digit sack total well within reach.
