By moving Devers, the team reportedly cleared about $250 million in future salary commitments, and according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, that money could be reinvested—possibly in a new first baseman.

Triston Casas was struggling before suffering a serious injury, and his long recovery timeline casts doubt on his availability as an everyday player in 2026. “The injury is severe enough that the Red Sox can’t assume he’ll be a regular by 2026,” Cotillo noted. “There’s no clear long-term solution at first base currently on the roster or in the farm system.” He added that while it’s too early to know who’ll be on the trade block, Boston should be aggressive in pursuing a reliable, everyday bat at first base—ideally one with team control beyond just a short-term rental.

The Red Sox will likely have several options, but one intriguing possibility may lie within enemy lines: the New York Yankees. Cody Bellinger, currently under an $80 million deal, has a player option after this season. If he opts out, Boston could become a serious contender for his services.

FanSided’s Drew Koch floated the idea, noting Bellinger’s versatility and power. “Even though the Red Sox outfield appears set for the future, Bellinger has plenty of experience at first base,” Koch wrote. “He’s still just 29 and owns one of the smoothest left-handed swings in the game.”

A two-time All-Star, Silver Slugger, and former National League MVP, Bellinger is hitting .251 with a .320 on-base percentage, .442 slugging, and 10 home runs so far this season. If he hits the market, he could be a full-time fit at first base for Boston, which already has a crowded outfield featuring Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Jarren Duran.
