Jaxson Dart Already Disrupting Giants’ QB Plans — Is a Shake-Up Coming?

Adjusting to the NFL is a challenge for any rookie, but for quarterbacks, the leap from college to the pros can feel downright impossible. That’s why the New York Giants are taking a measured approach with first-round pick Jaxson Dart. Head coach Brian Daboll has been clear all offseason: the plan is for veteran Russell Wilson to lead the team in 2025, with Jameis Winston backing him up.

But as we’ve seen time and time again, plans can change — especially when a young QB starts turning heads.

Dart will ultimately have a voice in how this plays out, and his performance on the field could force the Giants to pivot. First-round quarterbacks rarely sit the entire season, particularly if the offense struggles or the team hits a losing streak. The Giants have a defense strong enough to support Wilson, but if he stumbles at any point — especially midseason or later — pressure to give Dart a shot will intensify.

The encouraging part? Dart appears to be picking things up quickly. He’s impressed throughout the team’s offseason program and is heading into training camp with momentum and maturity. He’s already showing an understanding of the biggest lesson for rookie QBs: NFL defenders are faster, smarter, and more athletic than anything he saw in college.

“There are times you make a throw you’re confident in, and someone on the other side just makes a great play,” Dart said. “The athleticism and talent on defense really stand out.”

That realization is huge. Many young quarterbacks make the mistake of relying too heavily on their arm, assuming college-level throws will still work in the NFL. Dart is learning that lesson early — and that bodes well for his development.
