Sherman suggested that Seattle would be the ideal trade partner. It’s hard to disagree—pairing Julio Rodríguez with Ronald Acuña Jr., a 27-year-old superstar, would instantly make the Mariners a major threat.

But here’s the catch: Atlanta has zero reason to trade Acuña. He’s signed through 2026 on an incredibly team-friendly eight-year, $100 million deal—arguably the best contract in MLB.

Sherman pushed the idea further, criticizing Seattle’s lack of urgency: “They’ve made the playoffs just once since 2001. They’re the only team that’s never reached a World Series. Right now, they’re letting the ‘Zombie Astros’ take the division again. They have the worst right field production in baseball.”

Could Seattle Put Together a Trade Package for Acuña?

While it’s unclear if the Braves would ever actually move Acuña, Sherman’s scenario isn’t completely off the table—especially if Acuña ever considers leaving in free agency down the line.

If Atlanta did entertain trade talks, Seattle has one of the deepest farm systems in baseball. MLB.com recently ranked it fifth overall. They’re tied with the Cubs for the most Top 100 prospects (seven), all of whom are hitters. The system is packed with talent from both the draft and international signings, with a wave of promising arms close behind.
