Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, two of the most iconic figures in tennis history, recently opened up about their feelings regarding their children’s decisions not to pursue professional tennis. Despite their legendary status in the sport, neither of their two children—Jaden, 22, and Jaz, 20—chose to follow in their parents’ footsteps.
As a couple who collectively hold 30 Grand Slam singles titles, many expected their children to inherit their tennis talents and make waves in the professional circuit. However, both Jaden and Jaz pursued different passions. Jaden chose baseball and currently plays for the University of Southern California (USC), while Jaz has focused on her academics and other interests outside of sports.
In interviews, Agassi and Graf expressed a mixture of pride and mild disappointment.
“Of course, as parents, we always supported whatever paths they chose,” Agassi said, “but I’d be lying if I said we didn’t dream about seeing them play tennis at the highest level.”
Graf echoed these sentiments, admitting that while they never pressured their children into tennis, it would have been special to share their passion with the next generation.
Both former tennis stars, who have largely kept a low profile since retiring, also stressed the importance of allowing their children to find their own identities.
“At the end of the day, they are their own people, with their own dreams,” Graf added.
While the world may never see a new generation of Agassi-Graf tennis champions, their children’s choices reflect their parents’ commitment to freedom, balance, and individuality—a different kind of legacy that will undoubtedly make them proud.
