Sad News: Just In Atlanta Braves Just Confirm That Their Record-Breaking Superstar Player Will be On Rehab

Next Monday, Sean Murphy will start a rehabilitation assignment.

There is some good news on the injury front for the Atlanta Braves as a couple of key players are nearing returns. Barring any setbacks, catcher Sean Murphy will begin a rehab assignment next week per MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.

Murphy has been on the disabled list since Opening Day in Philadelphia due to an oblique ailment. He has been traveling with the group and has been getting more involved lately. In Murphy’s absence, Travis d’Arnaud has played the most of the time, with Chadwick Tromp serving as the backup.

Furthermore, ahead of Wednesday’s game, reliever Pierce Johnson threw live batting practice. He may be activated as early as Friday’s series opening against the San Diego Padres.

Johnson’s elbow irritation led to his placement on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 1. At the time, Brian Snitker stated that while they didn’t believe Johnson’s injury was significant, they still wanted to allow him some time to heal.

Since joining Atlanta’s bullpen at the trade deadline of the previous season with the Colorado Rockies, Johnson has been a vital component. After signing a new contract with the team in the offseason, he has made 13 appearances with a 3.00 ERA and a 2.80 FIP across 12 innings.
