South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley has firmly established herself as one of the most iconic figures in women’s college basketball. With three national championships under her belt and fresh off another title-game appearance, Staley continues to lead a powerhouse program.

As the Gamecocks gear up for another competitive season, changes are happening behind the scenes. On Sunday, Quintus F. Wrighten Jr., former assistant director of bands for South Carolina and a member of the School of Music staff, announced his departure. He revealed he’s heading to Mississippi to take on a new role at Mississippi Gulf Coast.

“We are excited to begin the next chapter of our lives in Mississippi!” Wrighten shared. “Many thanks to my friends and students of the @UofSC School of Music! The last 4 years have been filled with collegiality, growth, and artistry. Thank you! FOREVER to thee! And now, let’s go Band of Gold!!!”

After the announcement, Dawn Staley responded with a heartfelt message on social media:

“Omgoodness! I’m super happy for you, Quintus, but sad to see you go! We had some great times, and we’ll miss you dearly! Best to you—you’ll always be a Gamecock!!”

Staley, who has been with South Carolina since 2008 after beginning her coaching career at Temple in 2000, has built a dynasty in Columbia. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have earned seven Final Four trips, nine SEC regular-season titles, and nine SEC Tournament championships.

With a new season on the horizon, Staley remains focused on building upon her legendary legacy—while also honoring those who helped shape the culture of excellence at South Carolina.
