When the New York Giants took wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, they hoped he’d be an instant deep threat who could eventually grow into a well-rounded receiver.

But instead of progressing, Hyatt struggled with inconsistency and saw his role nearly disappear last season. After posting 23 catches for 373 yards as a rookie, he managed just eight receptions for 62 yards in 2024. Through 33 career games, he’s yet to score a touchdown.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Hyatt’s lack of involvement was partly due to tension with the coaching staff and front office. At times, he reportedly became mentally disengaged after butting heads with team leadership. Hughes noted that Hyatt’s underuse wasn’t due to a lack of ability, but rather the result of being stuck in the “doghouse” — a situation some players struggle to escape.

New quarterback Russell Wilson has mentioned Hyatt as someone he’s eager to work with, but that potential connection won’t matter if Hyatt can’t repair his relationship with the staff.

If he comes into the season more focused, committed to the playbook, and refines his route running, Hyatt could thrive in an offense led by Wilson — more so than he did under Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, or Tommy DeVito. But both his mindset and the quarterback upgrade will be key factors.

The Giants would clearly benefit from Hyatt turning things around. If not, the team has stocked up on undrafted free agents eager to earn a spot and take advantage of any opening.
