Jaxson Dart Already Embracing the New York Spotlight Before His First NFL Snap

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet, but he’s already showing the kind of confidence and charisma that could make him a fan favorite. Taken 25th overall after the Giants traded up to snag him, Dart has fully embraced his new role—and the big stage that comes with it.

From press conferences to appearances across the city, Dart has been quick to put himself in front of cameras, making it clear he’s ready for the spotlight. During a recent trip to Yankee Stadium with fellow Giants rookies, he joined the YES Network broadcast and spoke with Michael Kay, David Cone, and Paul O’Neill about his first couple of months as a Giant.

“I was hoping they’d take me,” Dart said of New York’s bold draft-day move, “and how it all played out—this was the place I wanted to be. Through the visits and the draft process, I built some really special relationships with the coaches and the organization. It just felt right.”

The 22-year-old Ole Miss alum isn’t backing down from the challenge of leading a franchise in one of the NFL’s toughest markets, either. When asked if the pressure fazes him, Dart didn’t hesitate: “No, absolutely not.”

Though he’s currently third on the depth chart behind Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito, Dart has already started adjusting to the pro level during spring workouts. The learning curve has had its bumps, but by all accounts, he’s delivered more promising moments than not.

The Giants plan to take a patient approach with Dart, giving him a “redshirt” year to develop under the guidance of head coach Brian Daboll, who’s known for his quarterback expertise. Still, there’s growing belief that Dart could challenge for playing time sooner than expected—possibly even before Week 1.

His college track record at Ole Miss—where he broke records and impressed NFL scouts—showcases the kind of fiery, competitive spirit the Giants are hoping can take their offense to the next level in 2025 and beyond.

Dart himself acknowledges the high-stakes environment of the quarterback room but sees it as the perfect place to grow. “I’m in a really special position to learn from guys like Russ, Jameis, and Tommy,” he said. “They’ve all been there before. Being able to pick their brains every day has been awesome.”

For now, Dart is focused on soaking up knowledge, improving every day, and doing whatever it takes to help the team win—whether that means waiting his turn or stepping up when the moment comes.

“I can’t stand losing,” Dart added. “So whatever my role is, I’m going to play it to the best of my ability and make sure I’m ready when my number’s called.”
