Shocking Move: Bruins Prospect Ditches NHL Dreams for Europe!

At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins acquired defenseman Daniil Misyul from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Marc McLaughlin. But Misyul’s stint with the organization appears to be short-lived—for now.

The 6-foot-3 blueliner has signed a one-year deal with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL for the 2025-26 season. However, if the Bruins extend Misyul a qualifying offer by the June 30 deadline, they will retain his NHL rights through the 2027-28 season, should he decide to return to North America.

After the trade, Misyul spent the remainder of the 2024-25 season with the Providence Bruins, Boston’s AHL affiliate. In 11 regular-season appearances, he tallied one goal, racked up 27 penalty minutes, and posted a minus-2 rating. He also added an assist and four penalty minutes across five playoff games.

While Misyul’s move overseas doesn’t directly affect Boston’s NHL lineup, it does thin out Providence’s blue-line depth. It remains to be seen whether the Bruins will tender him a qualifying offer to keep his rights on reserve.

As Boston looks to retool this offseason, bolstering the defensive corps—especially the top four—should be a priority. The need became even more pressing after the Bruins dealt Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline.
