As they adjust to life without star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, the Buffalo Bills are high on rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman to help bridge the gap created by the star’s trade to the Houston Texans.
Along with Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, Coleman is expected to emerge as Josh Allen’s primary option and become the WR1 sooner rather than later. General manager Brandon Beane recently offered his thoughts on Coleman’s progress.
When asked how Coleman was doing thus far, Beane responded, “I think Keon’s worked hard,” pointing out the differences between the playbooks used in college and the NFL and implying that “he’s gotta be involved in all phases of our offense,” even though he had previously mentioned the possibility of taking plays off, particularly in the run game (via Dov Kleiman).
Beane acknowledged that Coleman is a rookie and that there would inevitably be setbacks, so it wasn’t exactly harsh criticism, but the team is expecting a lot from him and will be depending on him to perform well in all areas of the game, especially the run game.
While at Florida State, Coleman caught 50 passes for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns in the previous season, and did enough for the Bills to select him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although Beane’s remarks didn’t seem out of the ordinary for a rookie, it’s encouraging to know that the organization believes Coleman can perform at a high level because they need it.
Diggs’ replacement, Coleman, is first in line, and he has enormous shoes to fill.
